What do you get when you have a bunch of pinnipeds in the pool? It’s a social party!\nWe’ll bring the toys and trainers – you bring your curiosity. Watch the sea lions engage with enrichment items and each other, as you hear from the staff that care for these charismatic marine mammals. We’ll take questions from the audience in this Aquatheater program for all ages.

PLEASE NOTE - Aquatheater will be closed for maintenance work May 2 through May 27.

The Atlantic sturgeon was once central to the identity of the Hudson and Delaware rivers. Of course, things have changed, and conservationists in New York and elsewhere are now committed to saving this imperiled species. Sturgeons are primitive fish with an appearance unlike that of any other. They are easily identified by rows of bony plates or “scutes” on their bodies. They have a downward-facing, tube-like mouth lined with four barbels (or feelers), used to detect bottom-dwelling prey.

Don’t miss Washed Ashore, the traveling art exhibit at the New York Aquarium. 35 larger-than-life animal sculptures showcase the impact of plastic pollution on our oceans. Each sculpture depicts a unique species of marine animal, including sharks, penguins, jellyfish and more, and is created entirely from repurposed marine debris. The animals featured in the Washed Ashore experience all represent species that WCS is working to protect around the world and locally in New York’s waters, as well as species you can visit at the aquarium. Available through Labor Day 2024.
